INTRODUCTION

The Raghunathpur Spot Light Society was established on 2nd April 2002. The area of functioning of this society is West Midnapur, Purulia & Bankura District of West Bengal, India. These Districts are most backward District of West Bengal State. The inhabitants of this area are mostly from the primitive tribe, schedule caste, scheduled tribe and other backward classes.

The most backward section of these people are from the primitive tribes such as Lodha, Sabar, Kerias this community is still living in the forest and far from the main stream. As these ommunity is land less, they are traditionally not habituated in agriculture. They were dependent on forest produce but as forest area are decreasing the traditional forest produce is also decreasing this primitive tribes are facing acute financial problem to maintain their livelihood. The education, health care is practically invisible amongst these people.

As the climate condition of these area is draught prone and lands are full of laterite. This area is not helpful for agriculture. Due to shortage of irrigation and process of agriculture is backdated, the yield of crop is very low, and as the majority of the population is landless and marginal farmers the economic condition of the people is very bad. Automatically the vast section of peoples are dependent on Forest produce and animal husbandry collection of Forest Produce and products of animal husbandry becomes main source of income during lean agriculture season.

Since formation of our society:

We are trying to improve the living condition to these tribes and other schedule caste and tribes by forming village level development committee who could plan & implement programmes to suit local needs making ambitionless people to sit to plan changes for themselves. Even self-help groups have been formed to empower women so that this force could be utilised to change the fate of the villagers. Each such groups started micro enterprise schemes where they have taken up activities such as rope making out of locally grown babui grass, home based small poultry etc. The finance of such has come from their own little savings which they have saved during the crop harvesting season. Our society has given a lump sum grant by collecting donation from our well-wishers. We have also given animal husbandry as high priority since land for cattle grassing are plenty, we have also financed for Piggery & Gottery.
These experimental work of our society is becoming helpful day by day but still there are may work which should be implemented such as:-

1. Training on Bee Keeping at household level which will bring revenue for women as wild flowers and that of Sal, Mohua, Segun are plenty available.
2. Plates may be made with Sal leaves and the same may be supplied to regular market.
3. Tashar yarn cultivation, which has been proved to be successful in these area using ‘Arjun’ plantation.
4. Plantation of fruit tree to be planted at household level.
5. To train the local people for modern agriculture system.

Our small service to the adopted villages income of the villagers is increasing. We are also launching a massive campaign against the child labour system and awareness about basic health care, these campaign becoming fruitful day by day and children of the adopted families are attending primary school.

The future task of our society is to start our activities at the all blocks of the area but due to scarcity of finance, we are unable to fulfill our motto.

Hence we are in search of financier, who will help us to serve the poorest people to change their fate.
